KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — An 18-year-old Klamath Falls man was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a commercial truck on Highway 97 near Klamath Falls, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 4:14 a.m. on May 16 near milepost 264 in Klamath County.
A preliminary investigation found that a white Freightliner commercial motor vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Shawn Christopher Kunze of Yreka, California, was traveling southbound on Highway 97 when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway.
The pedestrian, identified as Modoc Shadley, 18, of Klamath Falls, was reportedly wearing dark clothing and walking in the southbound travel lane for an unknown reason at the time of the crash.
Shadley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kunze was transported to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident.
Highway 97 was impacted for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene.
Oregon State Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Klamath Falls Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
