Medford, OR. — The City of Medford has selected longtime Medford Police Department leader Trevor Arnold as its next Chief of Police, positioning a 27-year department veteran to lead the agency through its next chapter.
The Medford City Council has authorized Interim City Manager John Vial to extend Arnold an offer of employment, which Arnold has accepted. The appointment still requires formal council approval at its May 20 meeting, with Arnold’s swearing-in anticipated June 3.
Arnold currently serves as Deputy Chief, a role he has held since 2021, overseeing department operations, strategic initiatives, major investigations, and regional public safety partnerships. His career with the department began in 1998 as a Community Service Officer, and he has since served in every rank within the organization.
“Trevor brings extensive operational experience, strong regional partnerships, and a deep understanding of the Medford community,” Vial said. “His leadership within the department, commitment to public safety, and investment in organizational development made him well-suited to lead the department forward.”
During his tenure, Arnold helped establish the department’s Livability Team and has played key roles in officer development, community engagement, and critical incident response.
Arnold said he is focused on continuity and strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community.
“I’m honored by the opportunity to serve as Medford’s next Police Chief,” Arnold said. “This department is filled with dedicated professionals who care deeply about this community. I look forward to continuing to build trust, strengthen partnerships, and support the important work our officers and staff do every day.”
Arnold would replace Chief Justin Ivens, who announced his retirement earlier this year after more than three decades with the department. The leadership transition keeps Medford’s top law enforcement role in-house during a period of broader city administrative transition.
