Oregon State Senator David Brock Smith of Port Orford has acquired several prominent conservative endorsements for his campaign to unseat Jeff Merkley. If nominated, Senator Smith would face an incumbent Democrat who has held office since 2009. Senator Smith faces a competitive challenge from former Oregon Republican Party Secretary Jo Rae Perkins, who was the Party’s nominee against Senator Merkley in 2020 and Senator Ron Wyden in 2022.

In a major show of momentum for his campaign, State Senator David Brock Smith (R-Port Orford), Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, has earned the endorsements of three of Oregon’s leading Republican candidates for Governor: Marion County Commissioner Danielle Bethell, State Representative Ed Diehl, and State Senator Christine Drazan.
The endorsements mark a significant show of confidence in Brock Smith’s campaign and reinforce his standing as one of Oregon’s leading conservative voices fighting for affordability, accountability, and public safety.

Since David Brock Smith announced his campaign on March 3, his Q1 2026 federal donation filings show that in the first month of campaigning he raised over $24,000. Perkins announced her current US Senate campaign on January 1, but has raised less than $6,000. In 2022, Perkins placed first above former McKenzie School Board member Darin Harbick despite being out-raised by $322,000. In 2026, Senator Smith and Perkins have raised similar amounts in unitemized contributions, or individual donations under $200. Senator Smith is at $2,608.37 over Perkins’ $2,255.37.
