Recalled Morrow county commissioner Jim Doherty is now under investigation by state election officials for potential campaign finance violations, raising renewed focus on transparency in his campaign operations.

The inquiry focuses on whether required financial disclosures were properly filed, a cornerstone of Oregon election law.
This is not the first time Doherty’s campaign activity has drawn scrutiny. As reported by the East Oregonian, his 2024 campaign faced questions over a so-called “Oregon Pro Life Caucus” PAC that had “no financial activity” and was revived shortly before being used in campaign messaging, prompting concerns about how the endorsement was presented to voters.
Additional reporting from Right Now Oregon previously raised questions about Doherty’s political network and funding sources, including scrutiny over out of area donors and the broader coalition supporting his campaign.
Now, with a formal investigation underway, attention once again turns to disclosure and accountability. The purpose of Oregon’s campaign finance law is ensure transparency in political spending, prevent corruption or its appearance, and maintain public trust in elections.
