MARION COUNTY, Ore. — A single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning left one person dead and another seriously injured along Highway 214, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash around 1:52 a.m. on April 29 near milepost 22. A preliminary investigation found that a Subaru WRX, driven by 18-year-old Adrian Ramos Monroy of Salem, was traveling southbound when it left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation.
The vehicle struck a tree, continued down an embankment, and eventually came to rest before catching fire.
Ramos Monroy was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, identified as 24-year-old Hallyenangel Marie Hance Route, also of Salem, was airlifted by Life Flight to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe a high rate of speed may have contributed to the crash.
Highway 214 was impacted for approximately five hours while crews conducted an on-scene investigation.
Troopers were assisted by the Drakes Crossing Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
