GRESHAM, Ore. — The Gresham Police Department is inviting community members to take part in a series of suicide prevention workshops aimed at equipping adults with the tools to recognize warning signs and respond effectively.
The department’s Police and Community Together (PACT) team will host the sessions, which are centered on Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training—an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals identify and assist people who may be at risk of suicide.
The workshops will be held at the Rockwood Public Safety Building, located at 675 NE 181st Ave, and will include three sessions tailored to different audiences:
- Youth Suicide Prevention Workshop — Wednesday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Senior Suicide Prevention Workshop — Thursday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to noon
- Community-Focused Suicide Prevention Workshop — Thursday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg emphasized the importance of community awareness and involvement in prevention efforts.
“Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one knows how devastating a suicide can be to our families and our community,” Gullberg said. “This training will help us remain vigilant and aware of the signs, so we might be better positioned to help anyone who may be struggling.”
Officials encourage residents to participate in the free workshops to build confidence in addressing mental health crises and supporting those in need.
