TIGARD, Ore. — The Tigard Public Library is set to reopen earlier than expected on Tuesday, April 28, restoring full services to the community after a temporary closure for building improvements.
Originally projected to remain closed into early May, the library’s reopening comes ahead of schedule following the completion of a major heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system replacement. The building has been closed since February 1 to accommodate the upgrades.
With the reopening, patrons will once again have access to all library services, including holds pickup, material returns, room reservations, the Tigard Community Seed Library, and the Library of Things.
The HVAC project was partially funded through a $500,000 allocation secured by U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas. During a March visit, Salinas toured the facility alongside Tigard Mayor Yi-Kang Hu, praising the city’s forward-thinking approach.
Salinas commended Tigard leaders for their “efficient and effective use of resources,” noting the importance of maintaining community access to services while investing in long-term infrastructure improvements.
Library officials also expressed appreciation for the support that made the project possible.
“We are grateful to the City of Tigard, Congresswoman Salinas, and the Tigard community for investing in this project and preparing the library building to be a more comfortable, efficient, resilient space for years to come,” said Halsted Bernard, Director of Library Services.
During the closure, the library operated an Express Library Service out of Tigard City Hall on Fridays through Sundays. That temporary service will continue through Sunday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while phone reference and account services remain available during the transition.
Despite the disruption, library staff maintained a strong community presence. Over the course of the closure, they logged 240 hours of Express Library Service, welcomed 2,169 visitors, hosted 755 participants in programs, conducted outreach at nearly 40 locations, and answered more than 2,300 questions.
The early reopening marks a return to normal operations for one of Tigard’s key community resources, just in time for the busy spring season.
