SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Human Services is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 14-year-old who disappeared from Tigard on March 19 and is believed to be in danger.
Authorities are searching for Chayton Owings, who may be in the Portland metropolitan area, particularly near the Eastbank Esplanade and homeless camps around the Hawthorne Bridge.
ODHS officials say anyone who sees Chayton or has information about his whereabouts should call 911 or contact local law enforcement immediately.
Chayton, who also goes by the street name “Jabber,” is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 102 pounds. He has brown hair—cut short and unevenly—and blue/grey eyes.
Officials noted that when children go missing, they may face significant risks, and locating them quickly is critical to ensuring their safety and well-being. In some cases, children may go missing more than once, prompting multiple public alerts as agencies continue their efforts to locate them.
The case is being investigated under Tigard Police Department report number 260005328, with additional support from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which has issued report number 2081530.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
In addition, suspected child abuse can be reported to the Oregon Child Abuse Hotline at 1-855-503-SAFE (7233), which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
