SALEM, Ore. — A 54-year-old Salem man died Monday afternoon following a collision involving a utility van and a bicyclist at a southeast Salem intersection.
Officers responded at approximately 4:36 p.m. on April 6, 2026, to the intersection of Pringle Road SE and Madrona Avenue SE for a reported vehicle-versus-bicyclist crash. Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel pronounced the bicyclist, Marvin William Miller of Salem, deceased at the scene.
The Salem Police Department’s Traffic Team was called in to lead the investigation. The intersection remained closed for nearly four hours as investigators processed the scene.
According to preliminary findings, a utility work van driven by a 27-year-old man was stopped at a red light while traveling northbound on Pringle Road SE. When the light turned green, the driver began a right turn onto eastbound Madrona Avenue SE. Miller, who was traveling northbound in the bicycle lane on the east side of Pringle Road, continued forward and fell to the ground, investigators said. He was then struck by the van.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Police said this marks the fourth fatal traffic crash in Salem in 2026, resulting in four deaths.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
