TIGARD, Ore. — Detectives are asking for the public’s help as they continue investigating an armed robbery at a jewelry store inside Washington Square Mall Saturday evening.
At approximately 6:08 p.m. on April 4, 2026, two masked men entered the Kay Jewelers armed with a handgun and a hammer. According to investigators, one suspect immediately began smashing a glass display case while the other pointed the handgun at employees and customers inside the store.
Several people were present at the time of the robbery and quickly hid to protect themselves. Authorities confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
The suspects fled the store with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and left the area in a black Honda Accord, heading north on Oregon Route 217. Law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions initiated a pursuit, but the driver refused to stop and continued into Portland.
During the pursuit, the suspects’ vehicle struck other cars near Northwest 14th Avenue and West Burnside Street, causing minor property damage. The vehicle continued northbound and eventually crossed into Vancouver, where the suspects were not immediately located.
Authorities said the sound of shattering glass during the robbery was initially mistaken by some witnesses as gunfire, contributing to concern among shoppers in the area.
Investigators described the suspects as wearing dark clothing, masks, and gloves, and carrying a backpack along with the hammer and handgun. While detailed descriptions are limited, police believe the suspects may have drawn attention from other shoppers and could have been captured on cell phone or dash camera footage.
Officials are urging anyone who saw the suspects entering or leaving the mall, or who may have recorded video that could assist the investigation, to contact detectives at tips@tigard-or.gov or by calling 503-718-COPS.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Beaverton Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Portland Police Bureau, assisted in the response and pursuit.
