Oregon — U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley has postponed a previously scheduled series of town halls across parts of Eastern Oregon while simultaneously announcing a new round of in-person events in other regions of the state.
The postponed meetings, originally set for March 30 through April 1, included stops in Malheur, Harney, Grant, Baker, Union, Wallowa, Umatilla, Morrow, and Wheeler counties. Merkley cited “unforeseen circumstances” and said updated dates for those communities will be announced in the coming weeks.
Despite the postponements, Merkley confirmed he will move forward with seven in-person town halls scheduled between April 2 and April 4 in Gilliam, Sherman, Klamath, Lake, Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties.
“I’m looking forward to again visiting wonderful communities all over our state,” Merkley said in a statement. “By talking directly to folks in each county my team and I can go to work for the interests and needs most important in each corner of our state.”
The newly announced town hall schedule includes:
Thursday, April 2
- Gilliam County – 2:45 p.m., Gronquist Building, Arlington
- Sherman County – 5:00 p.m., Rufus Community Center, Rufus
Friday, April 3
- Klamath County – 2:30 p.m., Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls
- Lake County – 6:30 p.m., Lake County Courthouse, Lakeview
Saturday, April 4
- Deschutes County – 11:00 a.m., Sisters High School, Sisters
- Crook County – 2:00 p.m., Barnes Butte Elementary School, Prineville
- Jefferson County – 5:00 p.m., Madras Performing Arts Center, Madras
Since taking office in 2009, Merkley has maintained a commitment to holding at least one public town hall in each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year, totaling more than 630 events to date.
Additional details for each meeting are expected to be shared with local media ahead of the events.
