Hillsboro, OR. — A 19-year-old man has been indicted on multiple felony charges following a single-vehicle crash earlier this month that left one passenger dead and another seriously injured.
On Tuesday, February 10, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers with the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of Northeast Ronler Drive and Northeast Century Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found four occupants inside the vehicle.
Police said the driver, identified as Oscar Regis, fled the scene on foot but was quickly located and detained by officers.
Four passengers were transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment. One passenger later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Another passenger suffered major injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART), Regis was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a light pole, spun across a sidewalk curb, and came to rest in a patch of grass.
Regis has been indicted on charges including Manslaughter in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, two counts of Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver to Injured Persons, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, three counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.
CART is a multi-agency team composed of specially trained law enforcement officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Beaverton Police Department, Hillsboro Police Department, Tigard Police Department, and Tualatin Police Department. The Washington County District Attorney’s Office assigns deputy district attorneys to the team.
