Coos County, OR. — A 43-year-old man was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly fleeing from a Coos County Sheriff’s deputy and crashing his motorcycle south of Bandon.
According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a green 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle around 11:58 p.m. Feb. 14 on U.S. Highway 101 near Upper Four Mile Lane. The rider was reportedly traveling well above the posted 55 mph speed limit.
The motorcycle did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated. Authorities said the rider turned onto Bethel Mountain Road and then onto Marple Lane, where the motorcycle continued at high speed over muddy conditions and potholes.
The operator, later identified as JD W. Easley, 43, eventually crashed into a dirt bank and fled on foot. The deputy pursued Easley and apprehended him after a short chase.
After taking him into custody, deputies confirmed Easley had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was additionally charged with Attempting to Elude by Vehicle, Attempting to Elude by Foot, and Reckless Driving.
Easley was transported to the Coos County Jail. The motorcycle was towed from the scene by Mast Brothers Towing. The Sheriff’s Office also acknowledged assistance from Bandon Police during the incident.
Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
