Grants Pass, OR. — A woman was fatally shot by police Saturday afternoon following reports that she was firing handguns in a roadway, according to the Grants Pass Police Department.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on February 7, 2026, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a female standing in the roadway near the intersection of Grants Pass Parkway and M Street, actively firing handguns.
Officers arrived on scene and issued repeated verbal commands for the woman to drop the weapon, which were ignored. Officers then fired their department-issued firearms, striking the woman.
She was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center, where she was identified as Alicia Shelton, 43, of Grants Pass. Shelton was pronounced deceased at the hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The Josephine County Major Crimes Team was activated following the incident, and the Oregon State Police were assigned to lead the investigation. The Oregon State Police Crime Lab responded to process the scene.
In accordance with standard protocol, the involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
