Lincoln County, OR. — Officers from the Lincoln City Police Department, including Police K9 Nato, assisted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office during a standoff Saturday at a residence on North Westview Drive in Otis, Oregon.
Deputies reported that 27-year-old Billyray Branum of Otis was barricaded inside the home and refusing to come out. Branum had an active felony warrant related to a weapons offense.
After approximately 90 minutes, Branum agreed to surrender peacefully and exited the residence with his hands raised. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies on the outstanding warrants.
During a brief post-arrest interview, Branum acknowledged the presence of the K9 unit, stating, “I really did not want to get bit.”
Police officials emphasized that while K9 teams are trained to track and apprehend suspects, their primary goal is to encourage peaceful surrender and enhance officer safety. The department credited the presence of K9 officers with helping bring the incident to a nonviolent conclusion and thanked area residents for their continued support of the K9 program.
