Eugene, OR. — Eugene Police Department Chief Chris Skinner has appointed Jake Burke as deputy chief, citing his extensive leadership background and investigative experience.
Deputy Chief Burke brings more than three decades of law enforcement service to the role, including over 25 years with the Salem Police Department. He most recently served as EPD’s investigations captain, a position he assumed in 2024, overseeing the Violent Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Financial Crimes Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Forensic Evidence Unit, and Evidence Control Unit.
“Deputy Chief Burke is an experienced and respected leader,” Skinner said. “His background uniquely qualifies him to immediately step into the role of deputy chief and provide value to the Eugene Police Department in service to our community.”
Burke began his public safety career as a reserve police officer with the Monmouth Police Department from 1995 to 1998 before joining the Salem Police Department as a full-time officer. During his tenure there, he served in patrol, field training, and the Mobile Response Team, and spent nearly 16 years in investigations working across person crimes, property crimes, and youth services.
Over the course of his career, Burke advanced through the ranks to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, and ultimately deputy chief of the Investigations Division. His service earned him multiple commendations, including Officer of the Year, Detective of the Year, and the department’s Distinguished Service Award, as well as recognition for his work with child advocacy organizations and partner agencies.
A Eugene native, Burke is a graduate of Thurston High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Oregon State College.
