Marion County, OR. — A routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 resulted in a significant drug seizure Friday afternoon near Ankeny Hill in Marion County.
According to the Oregon State Police, a trooper stopped a northbound vehicle near milepost 243 at approximately 2:00 p.m. on January 23 for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper observed discrepancies related to the vehicle’s ownership, prompting further investigation.
As the investigation continued, the trooper developed suspicion of possible drug activity and requested a drug-detection canine to respond to the scene. The canine alerted to the exterior of the vehicle, leading troopers to conduct a search.
Inside a duffel bag, troopers located approximately 26 pounds of methamphetamine and 18 pounds of cocaine.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody. Due to the quantity of narcotics seized, both the suspect and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
Additional information is expected to be released by the United States Attorney’s Office.
