Portland, OR. — The initial search for the suspect who shot and injured two Portland police officers in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood has concluded without an arrest, authorities said early Tuesday.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, the suspect was not located during an extensive overnight search involving multiple tactical and support units. The investigation remains active, and detectives are continuing to follow leads.
The shooting occurred at approximately 8:21 p.m. Monday when officers responded to a report of a threat involving a weapon near Northeast 21st Avenue and Northeast Clackamas Street. Police encountered the suspect on Northeast Clackamas Street, where shots were fired, striking two officers. Both officers were transported to a hospital, treated for their injuries, and reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect fled on foot, prompting a large perimeter and neighborhood lockdown. Specialized units including the Special Emergency Reaction Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, K9 units, air support, and unmanned aircraft systems were deployed during the search.
Police described the suspect as a white male in his mid-30s with facial hair, wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. He was last seen carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag and is believed to be armed with both a handgun and a knife. Authorities have cautioned the public not to approach the suspect.
Mayor Keith Wilson and Police Chief Bob Day responded to the scene Monday night.
