Curry County, OR. — Curry County has been awarded more than $1 million in congressionally directed federal spending to support long-needed improvements at the Curry County Jail, county officials announced Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Curry County Board of Commissioners, both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives approved legislation allocating $1,031,000 for jail facility upgrades and modernization.
County leaders said the funding effort began in 2023 and was advanced by the current Board of Commissioners alongside the Director of County Operations. The county’s contracted lobbyist, Accelerate Strategies, worked to elevate the jail’s infrastructure needs for federal consideration by Val Hoyle and U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden.
Planned improvements include upgrades to lighting and plumbing systems, door locking mechanisms, intercoms, and camera systems, along with a comprehensive overhaul of jail cells. Officials say the investment will improve operational efficiency while enhancing safety for staff and inmates.
The Board of Commissioners thanked federal partners and local stakeholders for their cooperation, calling the project a critical step toward maintaining a secure and functional correctional facility for Curry County residents.
