Coos County, OR. — A man wanted in connection with a Springfield assault earlier this week was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a coordinated, multi-agency operation in western Coos County.
At approximately 11:46 a.m., Oregon State Police received information about a possible sighting of Marcquis Andrew Lee White, 33, who was wanted for an assault reported Monday, Jan. 12, in Springfield.
Bandon Police Chief Cory Dhillon was first on scene near milepost 7 on Seven Devils Road, where he identified the area White fled into a steep embankment and dense brush. Chief Dhillon relayed critical information to responding officers, helping establish White’s last known location.
Responding agencies included the Bandon Police Department, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon State Police SWAT team. SWAT personnel ultimately located White and took him into custody without incident.
White was transported to a medical facility for evaluation and is expected to be transferred to the custody of the Springfield Police Department, where he will be lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges related to the Springfield assault.
Oregon State Police thanked their law enforcement partners in Coos County and the United States Coast Guard for their persistence and coordination over the past 60 hours that led to White’s apprehension.
Authorities said additional details related to the original assault investigation are available through the Springfield Police Department.
