Portland, OR. — Two officers with the Portland Police Bureau suffered minor injuries early Tuesday morning after their marked patrol vehicle was struck in a hit-and-run crash in East Portland.
The collision occurred around 2:40 a.m. on January 13, 2026, near Southeast 148th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. Officers assigned to the bureau’s East Precinct were responding to a call with lights and sirens activated when another vehicle struck the passenger side of their patrol car.
The impact caused significant damage and deployed all airbags inside the police vehicle. One officer was temporarily trapped and unable to exit until crews from Portland Fire & Rescue arrived and pried open the passenger-side door.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and were later released.

Police said the vehicle that struck the patrol car fled the scene. Investigators are searching for a dark-colored Chevy Suburban believed to have front-end damage, including damage to the front bumper.
“I am incredibly thankful that both officers are okay and were able to go home,” Police Chief Bob Day said. “This could have been much worse, and we’re grateful for the quick response from our partner agencies.”
