Oregon State Police Highway Fatality 6

Sherman County, OR. — One person was killed early Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 31, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded at approximately 4:02 a.m. on January 5 to the collision, which occurred north of Grass Valley. Preliminary findings indicate a red Honda HR-V traveling northbound left its lane of travel for an unknown reason and struck a southbound white Freightliner pulling a semi-trailer head-on.

The Honda was driven by Kenneth Frank MacDonald, 64, of Bradenton, Florida. MacDonald was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Freightliner was operated by Maynor Farid Mendieta Saravia, 32, of Willows, California. He was not injured.

The crash led to significant traffic disruption, with Highway 97 impacted for approximately four hours while investigators worked at the scene.

Assisting agencies included the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, South Sherman Fire and Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
