Multnomah County, OR. — Deputies with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 25-year-old fugitive early Sunday after a traffic stop in Fairview and seized a handgun equipped with an extended magazine and an illegal conversion device.
The incident began around 2:45 a.m. near Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast Fairview Parkway when deputies stopped a vehicle and identified the driver as Matthew Cash, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Clark County, Washington.
According to investigators, Cash initially complied but attempted to restart the vehicle during the stop. When the car failed to start, he exited, confronted a deputy in a fighting stance, and fled on foot, authorities said. Cash ignored repeated commands to stop and continued to resist after tripping down a small embankment during the pursuit.

Deputies warned that force would be used if he did not comply and deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon, commonly known as a Taser, to take Cash into custody. Paramedics evaluated him at the scene, and no serious injuries were reported.
During a subsequent search, deputies recovered a handgun fitted with a loaded extended magazine and a switch that converts the weapon from semi-automatic to fully automatic. Investigators also reported finding illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine and cocaine.
Cash was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges, including attempting to elude by vehicle and on foot, escape, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of a weapon.
Authorities released a photo of the seized firearm for media use with credit to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. Officials emphasized that all charges are allegations and that Cash is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
