Forest Grove, OR. — Forest Grove Fire & Rescue responded early this morning to a reported water rescue near NW Highway 47 between Oak Street and Sunset Drive.
At approximately 5:10 a.m., dispatchers received a 911 call from an individual stating they were in water and unable to walk out. The call was disconnected, and dispatchers were unable to reestablish contact.
Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrived first and made verbal contact with the individual. Guided by the patient’s voice, deputies entered a marsh area containing thick vegetation and water estimated to be about four feet deep.
With assistance from Forest Grove firefighters, deputies reached the individual roughly 100 feet from the highway and safely escorted them back to the roadway. Once out of the marsh, the patient was evaluated by AMR Washington County and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
To ensure no other individuals were in the area, deputies deployed a drone equipped with a thermal camera. No additional persons were located. Authorities said it remains unclear how or why the individual ended up in the marsh.
Despite the emergency response and multiple vehicles on scene, Highway 47 remained open throughout the incident.
Assisting agencies included the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Washington County, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
