Portland, OR. — Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Christopher Marshall on December 16, 2025, sentenced Abdikadir Mohamed Osman to 12 years in prison for shooting and killing one man and threatening the victim’s brother with a firearm.
Following a six-day trial, a jury convicted Osman of Manslaughter in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Menacing. The court also found Osman guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
The case was prosecuted by Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson and Senior Deputy District Attorney Brian Davidson.
“This was a senseless act of violence that resulted in the death of Shawn Fujioka,” Jackson said following the sentencing. “I hope this outcome will bring some peace and closure to his family.”
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office thanked Travis Law and the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Detail for their investigation, and recognized MCDA Victim Advocate Souk Kanhalikham for providing care and support to the victims.
According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred on October 6, 2020. Shawn Fujioka and his brother traveled from Carrolls, Washington, to Portland for a belated birthday celebration and shopping trip, renting a hotel room for the night. A man they planned to sell a jacket to came to the room and invited others to join the gathering.
An argument between Fujioka and the potential buyer escalated into a physical fight, stopped briefly, and then resumed. During the second altercation, Osman — a friend of the other man — intervened by pulling out a gun. When challenged, Osman shot Fujioka in the chest. He then pointed the firearm at Fujioka’s brother, threatening to shoot him as well, before fleeing the scene.
Fujioka died from his injuries.
