Marion County, OR. — A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 99E in Marion County, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on December 13 at the intersection of Highway 99E and Quinaby Road NE. Investigators determined that a Dodge Charger, driven by Juan Santiago Sandoval, 30, of Woodburn, was stopped on Quinaby Road NE before turning northbound onto Highway 99E. The vehicle entered the path of a southbound Yamaha XJ650 motorcycle.
The motorcycle, operated by Xander Ashton Colter, 22, of Keizer, struck the Dodge in a side-impact collision. Colter was declared deceased at the scene.
Sandoval and a passenger, Ricardo Alvarez Acosta, 27, also of Woodburn, were reportedly uninjured. Sandoval was arrested on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
Highway 99E was impacted for approximately five hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation. Police said impairment is considered a primary contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Fire Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
