Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump issued a social media post Monday following the possible murder of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The President said “[a] very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele.” Trump went on to attribute their deaths as “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Trump’s post followed public confirmation that the Reiners were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Authorities are investigating the deaths as a possible double homicide, and the couple’s adult son has been taken into custody in connection with the case. Law enforcement officials have not released full details, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In his message, Trump framed the deaths in political terms, asserting that Reiner’s long-standing criticism of him amounted to an “incurable affliction” and suggesting it contributed to the couple’s deaths. The post did not reference the police investigation or the circumstances outlined by authorities.
The post has drawn some pushback from conservatives. Activist Robby Starbuck posted on X, referencing Trump’s statement, “What happened last night to Rob Reiner and his wife was a savage butchering of 2 human lives. I don’t care what their politics were or how they felt about Trump, no law abiding human deserves this. We should pray for + send condolences to his loved ones and NOT make it political.” Riley Gaines replied to the post saying “Yikes. Terrible taste here. I hate to see this.”
Rob Reiner, 78, was a prominent Hollywood director and actor known for films such as This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, and A Few Good Men. He had been an outspoken critic of Trump in recent years. Michele Singer Reiner was a business executive and philanthropist.
Authorities have emphasized that the case is under active investigation and have urged the public to rely on verified information as it develops.
