Douglas County, OR. — Oregon State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an Elkton man Tuesday evening on Highway 38 near milepost 22.
According to the preliminary investigation, a Buick Enclave traveling eastbound and driven by 48-year-old David Michael Lawson of Elkton crossed into the westbound lane for unknown reasons around 5:20 p.m. The vehicle collided with a westbound Freightliner commercial truck and trailer operated by Kevin Morgan Leiser, 65, of Vancouver, Washington.
The impact caused the Enclave to spin out of control in the roadway, where it was struck by a westbound Buick LaCrosse driven by Krystal Richelle Jacks, 53, also of Elkton. The Enclave then rolled and came to rest on its side.
Lawson, the driver of the Buick Enclave, died at the scene.
Leiser, the Freightliner operator, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Jacks, the driver of the Buick LaCrosse, was reportedly uninjured.
Highway 38 was partially closed for approximately five hours while troopers conducted the on-scene investigation and crews worked to clear the roadway.
OSP was assisted by Scottsburg Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
