Clatsop County, OR. — The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new seasonal safety effort with its first annual Winter Boater Safety Inspection Station, scheduled for Saturday, December 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from Englund Marine in Astoria.
Local fishermen and recreational boaters are encouraged to stop by for a free vessel safety check and to be among the first to receive the 2026 Oregon Boater Safety Inspection Sticker. Deputies will review required equipment, answer safety questions, and help ensure boats meet all state regulations ahead of the upcoming season.
Boaters seeking a 2026 sticker should bring the following items:
- Current proof of boat registration
- Current registration year sticker posted next to OR numbers
- Boater safety education course card or equivalent documentation
- A non-expired, good-condition fire extinguisher
- Proper life jackets for all passengers
- A throwable flotation device such as a cushion or ring
Depending on vessel type, additional equipment may be required, including a carburetor spark arrestor and a bilge fume blower.
Anyone with questions about the inspection event can contact Deputy Shimer at 971-704-4465.
