Winston, OR. — Rep. Alek Skarlatos (R-Winston) announced this week that he will seek a second term representing Oregon’s 4th State House District, emphasizing his first-year legislative experience and his selection as Deputy Leader of the House Republican Caucus.
Skarlatos said his first term provided “the honor of being elected by my colleagues to serve as the Deputy Leader of the House Republican Caucus,” and added that the past year has shaped his decision to run again. “While I am optimistic for the future of our state,” he said, “I have seen firsthand how the Democrats have run our state into the ground and it makes me want to fight even harder in my second term.”
He stated that he hopes voters will return him to Salem to continue his work. “I would be honored if the people of the 4th House District would send me back to continue fighting against the terrible policies that are ruining our state, and for a better way of life for themselves and all Oregonians,” Skarlatos said.
Skarlatos, a former Oregon Army National Guard soldier, completed a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan in 2015 before gaining international recognition later that year for helping stop an armed terrorist on a Paris-bound train. His actions earned him several awards, including the U.S. Soldier’s Medal and the French Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He later co-authored a book about the event and portrayed himself in the Clint Eastwood film 15:17 to Paris.
First elected in 2024, Skarlatos represents portions of southern Douglas, Josephine, and Jackson counties. He currently resides on a ranch outside Winston.
