Marion County, OR. — Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday, November 28, on Highway 551 near milepost 3.
Authorities said the collision happened around 4:35 p.m. when a southbound Dodge Sprinter van driven by 39-year-old Conway Moncure Jennings of Portland rear-ended a southbound Hyundai Santa Fe operated by 36-year-old Aaron Robert Lightfoot of Aurora. The impact pushed the Hyundai into oncoming traffic, where it was struck on the passenger side by a northbound Toyota Sienna driven by 55-year-old Xianzhong An of Happy Valley.
Jennings, the driver of the Dodge, was transported to a local hospital. An and two passengers in the Toyota — 28-year-old Mariana Dominguez Chavez of Aurora and an 11-year-old male juvenile — were also taken to an area hospital with reported minor injuries.
Lightfoot and an 8-year-old male passenger in the Hyundai were transported with minor injuries. Another passenger in the Hyundai, 38-year-old Danielle Maria Lightfoot of Aurora, later died after being taken to a hospital.
Highway 551 was closed or heavily restricted for roughly seven hours as OSP conducted the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash remains under review.
OSP was assisted by Canby Fire, Hubbard Fire, Aurora Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
