Newport, OR. — A disturbance call at the Newport Bay Motel early Friday morning led to the arrest of a man accused of creating a fire hazard and disrupting guests, according to the Newport Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the motel, located at 754 SW Coast Highway, at approximately 8:46 a.m. on November 28. Multiple witnesses reported that Travis Lee Painter, 43, of Newport, was burning items inside his room, banging on walls, and behaving erratically. Investigators determined the activity posed a significant risk of the building catching fire.
Police attempted several times to persuade Painter to leave the room, but he refused to comply with commands. Given the immediate threat to property and human life, officers sought and obtained a search warrant to enter the room and take Painter into custody.
The warrant was executed shortly afterward. Officers entered the motel room and arrested Painter without further incident.
Painter was transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:
- Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person
Newport Police thanked the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the incident.
