Jackson County, OR. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced the retirement of Detective Ryan Groom this week, marking the conclusion of a 28-year career in Oregon law enforcement, including 22 years with Jackson County.
Sheriff Nate Sickler commended Groom’s long-standing dedication to public safety, noting their nearly two decades working together. “He did a lot of things to help our agency grow and help our community be safe,” Sickler said.
Groom began his law enforcement career in 1997 as a reserve officer with the Jacksonville Police Department. He later served with the Talent, Sunriver, and Tualatin Police Departments before joining the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in 2006.
During his tenure at JCSO, Groom served as a patrol deputy and contributed to multiple specialized teams, including the Traffic Team, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, and the SWAT Team. He also worked as a Corporal, field training officer, and drug recognition expert. For the past six years, he served as a detective with the Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET).
Sheriff Sickler also acknowledged Groom’s family for their support throughout his law enforcement career. “Thank you for sharing your father, your husband with us for the last 20 years, and for allowing him to be in public safety,” he said. “It’s a big deal.”
The Sheriff’s Office congratulated Detective Groom on his retirement and expressed appreciation for his years of service to the Jackson County community.
