Washinton, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday issued his annual Thanksgiving proclamation, designating Thursday, November 27, 2025, as a National Day of Thanksgiving and calling on Americans to gather in homes and places of worship to offer thanks to God.
The proclamation grounds the holiday in its historical origins, quoting President George Washington’s 1789 call for the nation to acknowledge “the providence of Almighty God,” as well as President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 appeal for unity during the Civil War. Trump said that this tradition of gratitude “has preserved our way of life and made America the strongest, greatest, and most resilient Nation the world has ever known.”
The President described the past year as one marked by “abundant blessings,” citing what he characterized as a roaring economy, lower living costs, restored sovereignty, and “a new era of peace sweeping around the world.” As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, he called on Americans to “summon the faith, resolve, and unflinching fortitude of the giants of American history.”
The proclamation concludes with Trump formally declaring the holiday and encouraging Americans to join in prayer, offering “endless gratitude to Almighty God for His love, grace, and infinite blessings.”
