Hillsboro, OR. – On November 10, 2025, Washington County Circuit Court Judge Brandon Thompson found 35-year-old Jacob Michael Anderson guilty of first-degree bias crime and reckless driving following a racially charged road-rage confrontation. Deputy District Attorney BJ Park prosecuted the case.
The victim, an Asian American man who lived across the street from Anderson, was driving to work on May 17, 2024, when Anderson began tailgating him on a 25-mph residential street. According to evidence presented in court, Anderson passed the victim on the right at high speed, damaging both the victim’s vehicle and a parked car.
Both drivers stopped, and Anderson exited his vehicle, approached the victim aggressively, and shouted a racial slur. Beaverton police responded and reviewed the victim’s dash-camera footage, which captured Anderson’s reckless driving. Anderson was arrested at the scene.
Investigators later learned Anderson had targeted the victim in prior road-rage encounters, a factor the judge cited during sentencing.
Judge Thompson sentenced Anderson to 120 days in the Washington County Jail, suspended his driver’s license for 90 days, imposed three years of supervised probation, ordered him to have no contact with the victim, and required completion of anger-management classes.
The Washington County District Attorney’s Office recognized the Beaverton Police Department for its work on the case.
Community members who witness bias crimes are urged to report them to local law enforcement. The Oregon Department of Justice also operates a statewide bias crime hotline at 1-844-924-2427.
