Medford, OR. — Crews are making substantial improvements at Harry & David Field, home of the Medford Rogues Baseball Club, as part of the City of Medford’s continued investment in local recreation infrastructure.
The project replaces the natural grass surface with Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass, a drought-tolerant turf variety known for reduced water use, lower maintenance needs, and fast recovery from wear. The same surface is used in major professional and collegiate venues such as Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
“It’s going to be incredible for our athletes to play not only on one of the best field surfaces in Oregon, but in the entire country,” said Jeff Weiss, general manager of the Medford Rogues.
In addition to the new surface, improvements include irrigation system upgrades, artificial turf in bullpens and practice zones, and enhanced batting cages equipped with lighting and new netting.
The project is funded through the City’s biennial budget process and is a cornerstone of a $1.5 million turf replacement plan for Lithia & Driveway Fields, which includes Harry & David Field.
“The Medford Parks and Recreation Department is grateful to the City Council and Citizens’ Budget Committee for continuing the longstanding financial investments in updating and improving existing recreation facilities,” said Rich Rosenthal, director of Medford Parks and Recreation. “The various improvements will greatly upgrade the quality and playability of Harry & David Field.”
Work began in mid-October, with turf installation anticipated in early December—well ahead of the spring high school baseball season.
Owned and maintained by the City since its opening in 2005, Harry & David Field was last renovated in 2012 to host the Rogues. The facility also supports Medford School District teams, the American Legion Mustangs, and numerous community events throughout the year.
