Scotts Mills, OR. — A late-night standoff ended in an arrest Thursday after Marion County deputies and a SWAT team took a wanted fugitive into custody following hours of failed negotiations.
Just after 10 p.m. on November 13, deputies responded to the 300 block of 2nd Street in Scotts Mills in search of 40-year-old Darren Lake, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lake refused to leave the residence or cooperate when deputies made contact.
SWAT and crisis negotiators were called to the scene, spending several hours attempting to communicate with Lake. Authorities say he repeatedly refused to engage or surrender.
With negotiations stalled, SWAT officers entered the home and took Lake into custody with assistance from a K-9 unit. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Marion County Jail.
Lake faces a lengthy list of charges and warrants, including felony attempt to elude, first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of failing to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons, two counts of reckless driving, stalking, reckless endangerment, attempted second-degree assault, failing to perform the duties of a driver involving property damage, failure to appear on a disorderly conduct charge, and second-degree criminal mischief.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked community members who provided information and tips throughout what it described as a “lengthy incident.”
