Coos County, OR. – A Roseburg man died Thursday morning following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 42 near milepost 24, according to the Oregon State Police. The crash occurred at 10:58 a.m. on November 13, 2025.
Investigators say a westbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by John William Henderson, 69, failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane, where it struck a Freightliner commercial motor vehicle pulling double trailers. The Freightliner was operated by Paul Cle Tigrett, 54, of Sutherlin.
A second commercial vehicle, a Peterbilt driven by Thomas Patrick Meyer, 72, of Coquille, struck a concrete barrier while attempting to avoid the crash.
Henderson was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His passenger, William Gene Henderson, 76, of Bandon, sustained serious injuries and was also transported for medical care.
Both commercial drivers, Tigrett and Meyer, reported no injuries.
Highway 42 was significantly impacted for nearly four hours as crews conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared debris.
OSP was assisted by Myrtle Point Fire, Myrtle Point Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
