Memphis, TN. — The Memphis Safe Task Force has arrested Tony Watson, 40, on outstanding burglary and theft warrants, adding new charges after officers discovered firearms and narcotics during his apprehension.
Task Force investigators, working alongside the Memphis Police Department, located Watson on Henrietta Road while searching for a wanted fugitive. Officers detained him after observing multiple firearms and illegal drugs in plain sight inside a residence. A further check confirmed that one of the firearms had been reported stolen.
Watson now faces additional charges, including Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Stolen Property. All seized firearms and narcotics have been entered as evidence.
According to officials, the arrest is the latest in a series of high-impact enforcement actions. Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, authorities have seized more than 400 illegal firearms, along with significant quantities of narcotics and related contraband, as part of efforts to curb violent crime and improve neighborhood safety.
“Each illegally possessed weapon seized represents one less tool of violence in the hands of offenders,” said Gadyaces S. Serralta, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service and Chairman of the Memphis Safe Task Force. “These types of arrests and seizures directly reduce the likelihood of future victims and reinforce the Task Force’s commitment to proactive enforcement, enhanced interagency collaboration, and community protection.”
