Tidewater, OR. — A missing hunter was found safe after an overnight search in rugged terrain near Tidewater on November 6, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received a report around 11:30 p.m. that a hunter in the Harris Ranch area off Highway 34 had become lost and contacted family members for help. A patrol sergeant met the hunter’s family and friends near the location of his vehicle, but early attempts to locate him showed he was in a steep drainage area surrounded by dense brush and limited visibility.
Due to the difficult conditions, the Lincoln County Search and Rescue (SAR) team was activated. SAR crews found personal belongings confirming the hunter’s path and followed a trail of items down the drainage. A second team entered from below and eventually located the hunter, who was wet, cold, but otherwise uninjured.
After a brief medical check, rescuers determined he could walk out on his own. The hunter was then escorted to safety and reunited with his family.
The Sheriff’s Office reminded outdoor enthusiasts to be prepared for sudden weather changes, particularly in remote or mountainous terrain. Officials recommend wearing water- and wind-resistant clothing, avoiding cotton, and always letting someone know your plans before heading out.
