Benton County, OR. — The Benton County Board of Commissioners will finalize its decision on the proposed expansion of the Coffin Butte Landfill on Monday, November 17, at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Holmes & Shipley meeting room of the Kalapuya Building, 4500 SW Research Way in Corvallis.
Because the public hearing record is closed, no public testimony will be taken at this meeting.
Republic Services brought the expansion proposal to the Board after appealing the County Planning Commission’s earlier denial. During a two-day public hearing on October 22–23, the Board reviewed evidence from the Planning Commission hearing as well as new submissions since the August 12 appeal filing.
The Board met on November 4 to deliberate, voting 2–1 to approve the application with modifications to conditions of approval outlined in the staff report published October 15. County staff are preparing the final decision document, which will include findings and justifications for approval. The decision will become final once that document is adopted on November 17.
The adoption will take place during the Board’s regular business meeting, which is scheduled on Monday instead of the usual Tuesday to accommodate the Oregon Association of Counties annual conference. The meeting agenda and remote viewing link will be available through the Benton County Board of Commissioners Meeting Portal by Thursday, November 13.
