Oregon — The Oregon Department of Justice has filed a motion to revoke the conditional release of former Clackamas County commissioner Melissa Fireside, after investigators learned she is no longer living at her listed address in Lexington, Oregon, and may have fled the country with her nine-year-old son.
Attorney General Dan Rayfield said protecting the child is the state’s priority. “Our top concern right now is the safety and well-being of this child,” Rayfield said. “We are working closely with law enforcement partners here and at the federal level to locate Ms. Fireside and ensure she is held accountable under Oregon law. No one should be able to evade justice by crossing a border.”
Fireside was arraigned in March 2025 on multiple felony charges, including aggravated first-degree theft, first-degree theft, computer crime, and first-degree forgery. According to OPB, prosecutors allege she defrauded her mother’s 83-year-old boyfriend of about $30,000 through forged checks and unauthorized electronic transfers.
Her trial was scheduled to begin December 2, 2025, under a conditional release agreement that required her to remain in Oregon unless granted court permission to travel.
In June, she withdrew a motion seeking to subpoena Clackamas County Commissioner Ben West, according to the Lake Oswego Review. The decision followed months of pretrial motions and delays in her case.
State investigators are now coordinating with federal authorities to locate Fireside. If she has left the United States, extradition could depend on cooperation from the country where she is found. Officials said the child is not believed to be in immediate danger but emphasized his safety remains the State’s highest concern.
Anyone with information on Fireside’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Oregon Department of Justice Criminal Division at (503) 378-6347.
