Lakeview, OR. — The Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced that a grand jury has determined a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy was justified in the use of lethal force during an October 7, 2025, officer-involved shooting in Lakeview.
According to District Attorney Paul J. Charas, deputies attempted to arrest 2025 trial no-show David Dillon, who had been scheduled to appear on a charge of first-degree sodomy involving a child under twelve. When Dillon failed to appear, an arrest warrant was issued.
A Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy located Dillon behind his residence in an alley, inside a Ford F600 bucket truck. Dillon indicated he had a firearm. Oregon State Police soon arrived to assist. A taser was deployed to subdue Dillon, but it proved ineffective. Authorities said Dillon then aimed his gun toward officers, prompting the deputy to fire. Dillon was fatally shot at the scene.
The October 28 grand jury reviewed body camera footage and heard testimony from Detective Brandon Witmer of the Klamath Falls Police Department. The jury concluded that the deputy’s actions were justified and that no laws were violated by any law enforcement officers involved.
