Bend, OR. — A passerby called 911 just before 4 a.m. Friday after spotting smoke coming from a storage complex near Bear Creek Road and Janalee Place. Fire crews searched the area and located the source at the Storage Solutions complex on Twin Knolls Drive, where flames were spreading through several connected units.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and worked to remove items from neighboring units to prevent further damage. Three of the 17 large 10-by-30-foot units were damaged by fire, while others sustained varying degrees of smoke damage.
The estimated loss includes $25,000 to the building and $100,000 in contents. The fire appears to be accidental and remains under investigation.
The storage complex owner and managers are assisting in notifying affected renters. Officials reminded the public that most storage facilities recommend tenants carry insurance coverage for stored items, as losses can vary depending on policy terms.
