Douglas County, OR. — The Oregon State Police (OSP) have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred early Sunday morning on Highway 42 near Winston.
The crash, reported at 1:08 a.m. on October 12, 2025, claimed the life of 30-year-old Dustin Rios of Canyonville. Preliminary investigation found Rios was in the lane of travel for an unknown reason when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle near Grant Smith Road, close to the Taco Bell restaurant.
The involved vehicle, described as a 2006–2011 black Honda Civic, fled the scene. Investigators later recovered roadside evidence, including a damaged driver’s side mirror and a transparent window visor believed to have come from the suspect’s car.
On October 16, 2025, OSP investigators located the suspect, Brandon James Jensen, 41, and arrested him for failure to perform the duties of a driver and tampering with physical evidence.
OSP expressed gratitude to the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
The highway was closed for about four hours during the initial response and investigation, which also involved the Winston Police Department, Douglas County Emergency Services, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
