Salem, OR. — A 2021 narcotics investigation by the Salem Police Department has led to a significant federal prison sentence, underscoring the value of collaboration between local and federal law enforcement.
On October 16, 2025, Nicolas Pena Galvan, 26, of Portland, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for drug trafficking and firearm offenses.
Galvan was arrested on June 21, 2021, by Salem Police’s Strategic Investigations Unit during an ongoing narcotics probe. Detectives discovered roughly 1,000 fentanyl pills, a loaded stolen handgun, and $340 in cash during the arrest.
The Salem Police Department expressed appreciation to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kerin in Portland for their “persistence and excellent work” in securing the conviction.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kerin commended Salem detectives for their detailed casework, saying their efforts were “instrumental in securing the conviction and keeping deadly drugs off the street.”
