Lake County, OR. — On October 7, 2025, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded to the area of North M Street and North 2nd Street in Lakeview to serve an arrest warrant.
The suspect, identified as 74-year-old David Edward Dillon of Lakeview, had failed to appear for a scheduled trial on charges of Sodomy in the First Degree and had a serviceable warrant for his arrest.
Dillon was located inside of a parked vehicle and was noncompliant with arresting officers. During the encounter, Dillon pointed a firearm at both an Oregon State trooper and a Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
In response to the deadly physical threat, a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged his firearm, striking Dillon. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The Lake County Major Crimes Team was activated in accordance with SB111 protocols and is conducting the investigation. The Klamath Falls Police Department is serving as the primary investigating agency with assistance from the Oregon State Police.
The Lake County deputy and the Oregon State trooper involved have been placed on administrative leave per department policies.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation to the Klamath Falls Police Department and Oregon State Police for their assistance with the investigation.
