Linn County, OR. — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has released additional details about a homicide discovered after an early-morning crash on Saturday, October 4, near Highway 34 and Peoria Road east of Corvallis.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at 4:19 a.m. about a single-vehicle collision. Corvallis Fire Department crews arrived first and found a gray 2013 Chevrolet Camaro that had crashed into a fence with one male occupant inside. As firefighters began lifesaving efforts, they discovered the man had been shot. He died at the scene.
Deputies and detectives from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office initiated a criminal investigation. The victim has since been identified as Christopher Joseph Smith, 30, of Albany. His family has been notified.
The case is being investigated as a homicide. No suspect information or additional details were released as detectives work to protect the integrity of the investigation.
