Portland, OR. – Violent clashes near Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on September 30 have once again raised questions about the city’s handling of recurring unrest.
According to The Post Millennial, reporter Katie Daviscourt was assaulted by an Antifa agitator while covering the protests. Video shared by Daviscourt and journalist Andy Ngo on X appears to show the attack amid chaotic confrontations between demonstrators and federal officers.
Fox News contributor David Marcus also reported his own run-in during the unrest, stating “[j]ust as the useless authorities in Portland allow addicts and vagrants full run of the city, the same applies to Antifa. Even when a journalist is physically assaulted, as far as Portland police are concerned, the answer to ‘Whose streets?’ really is ‘Antifa’s streets.'”
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) has since released a statement asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect connected to one of the assaults during the demonstration. Surveillance photos show the individual sought in the ongoing investigation.
City officials maintain that federal and local law enforcement are working to contain violence at the ICE facility, which has been a recurring flashpoint for protest activity. Critics argue that authorities’ inconsistent approach emboldens extremist agitators and undermines press freedom.
The incident underscores long-running tensions in Portland between protesters, police, and federal agents. As of Wednesday, no arrests have been announced in connection to the assault on Daviscourt, but PPB urges anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.
