Oregon – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has released its September 25, 2025, Recreation Report, providing updates on fishing, hunting, crabbing, clamming, and wildlife viewing opportunities across the state.
Among the highlights, youth pheasant hunts are happening statewide, offering young hunters a chance to participate in mentored opportunities this fall. For anglers, ODFW noted the General Marine Species daily bag limit has been reduced to three fish to avoid early season closures. Hatchery Chinook season has returned to the Coquille River for the first time since 2021, while wild coho fisheries opened in mid-September with expanded opportunities.
Trophy trout stocking continues in several northwestern lakes, and the upcoming Rogue River Pikeminnow Roundup (Sept. 26–28) promises prizes while supporting native fish protection. On the coast, razor clam digging remains open along central beaches, with Clatsop beaches expected to reopen October 1 if toxin levels permit. Crabbing remains open statewide.
Hunting updates include archery season closures on Sept. 28, ongoing grouse and quail seasons, and fall turkey hunting. Hunters are encouraged to submit deer and elk samples for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing, a critical surveillance effort. Waterfowl workshops and hunter education opportunities are also available statewide.
In addition, the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area shotgun range near Corvallis remains closed for renovations until late October, though other facilities remain open.
ODFW reminds outdoor enthusiasts to check regulations and fire restrictions before heading out and to rely on official updates rather than artificial intelligence tools, which the agency warned may provide inaccurate information about current rules.
